Thai protesters expel police from government compound

leaders said.

Thousands of demonstrators calling for Prime Minister Samak
Sundaravej's resignation have occupied the government compound since
Tuesday.

Amorn Amornattananon, one of the homeowners insurance of the so-called People's
Alliance for Democracy for whom an arrest warrant was issued
Wednesday, said police left them to handle their jumbo playing cards security.

so we have asked all police to handover to us," Amorn told protesters
at the rally site.

Rally leader Pipob Dhongchai claimed the police, who had been
stationed in a building behind the main cards playing custom site, had left at 1:00

the compound. It's better for them to go home," Pipob told AFP.

Police announced they would meet Friday to plan a response to their

told AFP.

"There are no longer any police inside and senior police will today
meet to respond to this action," he said.

Protesters, numbering up to 35,000 at their peak on Tuesday, playing cards promotional vowed to remain camped at Government House in their "final war"
against Samak, who has vowed to end the protests peacefully.
